Trista D. Carey, partner


Trista is a Senior Partner with Schnell Hardy Jones LLP, practicing in the fields of Estate Planning and Administration, Adult Guardianship and Trusteeship, Real Estate, and Corporate/ Commercial Law.

She obtained her Bachelor of Management with a major in Marketing from the University of Lethbridge in 1999 and her Juris Doctor from the University of Calgary in 2005. Trista articled with Schnell Hardy Jones LLP and was called to the Bar in 2006. She is a current member of the Central Alberta Bar Society.

Trista has a thriving real estate practice and enjoys assisting her clients with their residential or commercial real estate needs. She and the Schnell Hardy Jones LLP team of knowledgeable and experienced assistants are ready to make your next purchase or sale as smooth as possible.

With an educational background in commerce, Trista is well positioned to assist her corporate clients with all of their needs, from the initial phases of starting up their business, to commercial lending as they expand, shareholder agreements to ensure thoughtful and intentional business management and succession, and asset or share sale or purchases. Trista’s practice has an emphasis on Wills and Estate Planning and Estate Administration. She recognizes that every client’s situation is unique and embraces the challenge of creating a customized estate plan for her clients that meets their specific needs, maximizes tax efficiency, and ensures their wishes will be fulfilled. With a diverse background and experience in several areas of law, Trista has the knowledge to assist clients with complex planning issues, including trusts, blended families, represented adults, and business and farm succession planning, as well as guiding Personal Representatives through the estate administration process.

Trista is also well-versed in the areas of Guardianship and Trusteeship, and planning for Represented Adults. She understands that this is a challenging area for families who have a loved one with a development disability, and Trista has given several presentations on Guardianship and Trusteeship issues, as well as the unique challenges of estate planning in these circumstances.

Trista is also proud to give back to the Red Deer community by volunteering with a number of not-for-profit and community organizations.
